Contemporary & Casual, The Spring Valley House

Contemporary & Casual, The Spring Valley House

I’ve been working on a home for a former client that recently moved to a new home.  I say new, but its actually an older home, built in the 1950s.  While the home had been remodeled in the past, it still felt pretty dark in some places and needed some remodeling to the kitchen as well as some paint updates.  Here you can see some before pictures.

Even with that wall of beautiful windows, the kitchen still felt dark and somewhat closed off from everything else.  To really make it light and bright, the contractors had their work cut out for them- there was a bit of wall knocking down to do and then everything went white.  We decided on Benjamin Moore’s Abalone at 50% for the walls everywhere else. Below is the kitchen and breakfast room plan we came up with.

Kitchen and Breakfast Moodboard- The House of Figs

Here’s the moodboard for the rest of the living area- the dining room, entryway, etc.  They love blue and we added in some coral, grays, lots of white also, and a little black for contrast.  Contemporary & Casual The House of Figs

I went last week for the first part of the install and while they didn’t have all their furniture and the electrician hadn’t been by to install all the light fixtures yet, things are definitely coming along!  The kitchen looks beautiful with its new marble countertops and I can’t wait to finish everything up and get Paul in there to take some real photos.  For now, these “after” iPhone shots will have to do.

My absolute favorite part of this house?  This little vestibule entryway covered in this beautiful wallpaper from Hygge and West.  The contractors were installing it when I arrived and they did an amazing job- see how it even covers the lightswitch plate?  Just stunning!  I’m not finished styling this area and in fact we ended up switching this print for a mirror to really reflect the light and that beautiful pattern, but I just wanted to share how its coming along.Foyer // The House of Figs

I’ll keep you updated on this house because of course I can’t wait to show you this kitchen in all its new white and bright-ness!

I’m slowing down the blogging a bit right now as I prepare for the switch behind the scenes to my “new and improved” site. Thanks for your patience and for your continued support!!  ❤  I’m hoping to make the switch in August and will keep all of you updated.  The web address will stay the same and if you’re already subscribing via email you will continue to receive email updates with hopefully no interruptions.  If you are not subscribing and would like to- you can do that in the sidebar to the right of this post by clicking the “follow” button.  Thanks so much for reading!

The Montgomery House Mud Room & Laundry Room

This post is really all about going from dreams to reality.

laundry mud moodboard

I created this moodboard about two years ago before I had any idea what I was doing or how any of this would turn out.  I made it using a free app on an iPad and taking screen shots of all sorts of pictures on Pinterest.  There were no real sources listed for my client, just concepts and ideas (if anyone can source these pictures, please let me know, I’d love to give credit where credit is due!)  My client and friend trusted me so much and she and I together made it happen many many months later.  She had an amazing builder who at times (I’m sure) thought we were crazy but just did what we asked based off pictures she gave him.

This is the beginning of a series of posts featuring after pictures of The Montgomery House.  If you click the tag “Montgomery House” at the bottom of this post, you can see some of the other moodboards I’ve done for this house as well as progress throughout the building process. Thanks for reading and for all your support!! ❤

This living room had all the bare bones, it just needed a little pulling together. As you can see, she already had a great rug, some great neutral couches, and a lovely color on the wall. They had experimented with some different patterns on the pillows and knew they wanted more pattern and a little bit of color. I felt like we just needed some more texture and varying/contrasting patterns to make it work.

I love that gray pouf she already had!  And the little office nook area below is just lovely!  That little blue piece below is housing all of the equipment for the TV which is above the fireplace, but not pictured. We needed a better solution that felt more to scale for that little tricky spot.IMG_8525

We also worked on this little foyer area just off the living room.  Its not really a foyer, but just an entry into the living room.  Below is the moodboard with a mix of ideas I had just for this little special spot…including my favorite little Ikea Kallax!

The other day I shared with you the moodboard and the before pictures of this family of five’s home office and today I am so excited to share with you the results!

Here you can see how the room flows from the living room. Beyond just the office area, we also did the map/gallery wall just past the sofa seen in the picture below. We used maps and pictures from places they have traveled.Room-3 Room-5 Room-7 Room-8 Room-10 Room-11 Room-12 Room-13

One more of the whole space, because I just love all the color and light here.  Its pretty, fun, and functional now and I just love how it turned out! Room-3

By the way, I told you in the last post that this client is a talented photographer.  Check out her site at www.littlelambphoto.com if you are local and looking for someone who does great work! You might even find my family’s portraits there. 🙂
